Good lives begin and end with people.
And the relations between us are what make them.

Welcome to Relation

At Relation we believe that strong relationships are what build sustainable welfare.

Our focus is to support municipalities and organizations in understanding and implementing relational welfare as a method through which the unique circumstances and ambitions of each user can give shape to the support they receive.

Relational Welfare

Relational welfare establishes concrete principles for how small adjustments can create greater impact in work involving people –  namely by putting relationships in the center.

No matter what professional method you use, the important question is not: “Did I do what I was supposed to, correctly?” but rather: “Are we actually doing what works for you?” This applies to the relationship between welfare employees and the citizens they serve, but just as much between managers and employees.

Relational welfare puts focus on effective actions, demonstrating how small adjustments can generate greater impact. It emphasizes what it takes in practice to make our relationship with citizens the focal point of our support.

Taking a relational approach means seeing the whole person and their unique story – rather than the system logic of simply providing “the right support”.

Man møder et menneske – Inspiration for Change

The book Man møder et menneske (Meetings with People) demonstrates how relationships can transform welfare efforts.

Through practice-based examples and insights, the book serves as a practical guide on understanding how relationships can be used to generate greater impact in social work.

It presents a series of effective actions and insights into how a adaptable organization and culture can make it easier for employees to take a relational approach, provided that the organizational and leadership frameworks give them the scope to do what’s needed – and not just what’s familiar.

Man møder et menneske challenges the notion that better welfare requires more funding and confronts conventional approaches to documentation and management. The book features contributions from former Danish Ministers for Social Affairs and other voices from the field of social policy, who offer their perspectives on why Danish society has not succeeded in breaking free from its negative social inheritance.

Man møder et menneske was written by Helle Øbo and published by Akademisk Forlag in 2023.

The book is also available as an audiobook here.

Relational Measurement App

At Relation, we offer practical support for relational welfare through our app which measures the value of relationships.

By asking three key questions after each meeting, welfare employees can quickly gain some insight into whether the encounter was meaningful for the individual citizen.

Contact us at Relation if you think your municipality or organization could benefit from using this app.
